OBITUARY OF MARK MCWHORTER
Mark A McWhorter, 63, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois passed away on April 10, 2023 in Winthrop Harbor,
Illinois. He was born March 4, 1960 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Everyone who knew Mark knew that he was one of a kind. He had a special gift of being able to diagnose
and fix any kind of problem that anyone could think of on a car. He enjoyed helping people make sure
their cars were reliable and could get them anywhere they needed to go. He enjoyed cooking and took
pride in everything that he made. He had a soft spot for dogs, especially the two that he had, Buddy and
Shadow, wherever he went, the dogs were almost attached at his ankles and he loved them like they
were his children. Later in his life he pursued higher education and received his Masters Degree in
Business Administration, which helped him get the job he had at Amazon. One of Marks favorite hobbies
was being able to spend time with his grandchildren after school, drawing with them and putting
everything that they made on his walls to the point that it resembled wallpaper. Mark was very
optimistic about life and taught us at a young age that everyone deserves a second chance “its not
about what you did, but what you became from it”.
Mark is survived by his children Mike, Matt and Jeff; brothers Bruce, Michael and Rick; grandchildren
Brooklynn, Brantlee, Aiden, Audrey with another one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Haws (Turner) and his parents James and Louise
McWhorter
Visitation will take place Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012
Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a precession to Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in
