Obituary of Gloria Hunter

Gloria Georgia (Grasty) Hunter,83, of Easley, S.C. entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at home. She was born August 17, 1923, in Fayetteville, N.C., and lived most of her life in the Zion-Winthrop Harbor, IL area. Gloria retired from Abbott Laboratories after 18 years of service. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Zion and a former member, treasurer and deaconess of the Russell Community Evangelical Free Church in Russell, IL. Gloria was an avid bowler and competed in many Pro-AM tournaments and won several top awards, including having a 277 high game achievement. She served her community as a member of the hot-line crisis intervention team and for many years was a Brownie Leader with the Girl Scout organization. She was a passionate humanitarian and was a member and ardent supporter of various organizations; such as the American Red Cross, the American Institute for Cancer Research, and the U.S. Term Limits (which advocates against the abuse of a permanently elected congress). Gloria touched the hearts of many and helped lead countless loved ones, friends, and acquaintances to the Lord. Her life was filled with bright moments which she delighted in sharing with others. We will miss her, but her spirit will be with us forever. She was survived by two sons, Larry Hunter of Easley,S.C. and Michael (Sandra) Hunter of Pickens, S.C.; three daughters, Suzan Hunter of Easley, S.C., Barbara (Donald) Johnson of Detroit, AL, and Gloria (James) Marcelain of Kenosha, WI; a brother, Paul (Nola) Grasty of Beach Park, IL; sisters-in-law, Daisy Grasty and Pat Grasty; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Samuel W. Hunter; her mother and father, Georgia and Leonard Grasty; three brothers, William , Leonard and John Grasty; and three sisters, Virginia Brackeen , Thelma Colbert, and Bessie May. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, with Pastor Jon Wiziarde of Christ Community Church, officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr. Zion, IL 60099 would be appreciated.
