Anita Struna

Anita J. Struna, 85, of Waukegan, IL passed away on  September 10, 2023 in Lake Forest, IL. She was born on February 16, 1938 the daughter of Steve and Rosa (Hoffmeier) Anastos.

Anita graduated from Waukegan Township High School. She married William "Bill" Struna, her husband of 57 years on July 28, 1956 at Mother of God Church in Waukegan, IL. Anita enjoyed bowling in leagues as a temporary respite from caring for her three small children back in the day, as well as gardening and browsing estate sales. Once her children were grown and especially after her husband Bill retired, there was more time for travel. A favorite destination for both them was Oneida Casino. She loved keeping up with current events, politics, and especially the stock market. Anita was proud of her grandchildren, and thrilled to be a great-grandmother.

Anita is survived by her children, Jill (Ralph) Heaven Jr., Pam (Bill) Giles, Debbie (Randy) Bukantis; grandchildren, Christine (Rhett) Dillingham, Geoffrey (Marian) Heaven, Kimberly Lewis, Amanda (Michael) VanderVelde, Kristin Lewis, Stephanie (Bradley) Ottersen, Ryan (Jackie Albino) Bukantis; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Struna; parents Steve and Rosa Anastos; and sisters, Marion Drinkwine, and Rose Zelgewicz.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099. Burial will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago, IL.
