Larry Gerald Litewski of Winthrop Harbor went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. He was born July 30, 1954, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Gerald and Barbara Litewski. He was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in Zion, IL. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1973 and married his high school sweetheart Sue (Hays) Litewski in 1975.
Larry and Sue began their family in 1976 with the birth of Rob, followed quickly by the arrival of Caryn in 1978 and Jonathan in 1981. On October 18, 2020, Larry and Sue celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary and 49th year of life together. They were best friends throughout their life. When Sue fell severely ill and permanently disabled, Larry became her full-time caregiver. He was a shining example of a loving husband to all blessed to know them. Sue passed away on October 31, 2020, and Larry greatly mourned her loss in the years that followed. After Jesus and Sue, Larry took great joy in caring for his kids and his 10 grandchildren.
Growing up, Larry spent a lot of time working on his family’s farm and as a teenager was employed at his uncle’s gas station. After high school graduation, Larry began working as an autoclave operator at Abbott Labs. He remained at Abbott for 29 years, followed by Hospira for 5 years prior to his retirement. He loved his job and the many friends he made over the years through Abbott.
Larry was also a man of faith, serving the Lord quietly and faithfully for many years. As a teen, he attended First Baptist Church in Winthrop Harbor. Later, he attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Zion, where he helped teach children’s Sunday School alongside Sue. He faithfully attended Lakeview Church in Zion for the past 28 years.
Larry is survived by: his children Rob (Amy) Litewski, Caryn (David) Block, and Jon Litewski, his brother Mike (Pat) Litewski, his sister Sue (Ron) Wendricks, his brother Dan (Jennifer) Litewski, his grandchildren Kailie, Emma, Isaac, Abigail, Lauren and William Block and Alina, Christian, Noah and Cade Litewski and many extended family members.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Barbara Litewski and his beloved wife Venessa Sue (Hays) Litewski. Services are scheduled for Monday, December 4, 2023, at Lakeview Church in Zion, IL. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by the funeral service at 11 am. The interment will be private and will follow the service at Oakdale Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed on Lakeview Church’s YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.
