Douglas F. McKenzie, 78, of Waukegan, Illinois, formerly of Silver City New Mexico, passed away on January 26, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 3, 1945 in Oak Park, Illinois the son of Delbert and Rose McKenzie.
Douglas graduated with a Masters of Education degree and worked for the Zion Benton Township High School as a Principal and Director of Special Education. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, and was a church elder in Waukegan and Silver City, New Mexico. Douglas was a supervisor of PADS program to provide shelter to the homeless, was a Sheriff's mounted citizen patrol in San Bernadino, CA , and a volunteer fireman in Pinos Altos, New Mexico. He was an avid WWII historian and tennis player.
He is survived by his wife of who he married on July 18, 1992, Galynn McKenzie; children, DeAnne (Tristan) Porras, Ryan (Michelle) Sarver, Stephan (Julie Freeman) Sarver, Christine (Alicia Seely) Robbins, Michael McKenzie; grandchildren, Giovanna McKenzie Lopez, Nathan Alexander Porras, Anthony Sacco, Matthew Sacco, Alysha Zazula, Jasper Cailyn Sarver, Shailynn Caleia Sarver, Wesley Seely, DJ Seely; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Sacco, and Ember-Lynn Rose Seely.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister Patricia McKenzie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, Illinois 60099.
