Obituary of Gerald J. Anderson

Gerald James “Jerry” Anderson, 91, of Zion, Illinois passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024 in Lindehurst, Illinois. He was born July 25, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to parents Elmer and Dorothy Anderson.

Jerry graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School in Portland, OR. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Oregon State University, and then went on to attend the University of Idaho where he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Animal Nutrition. After college, Jerry served in the US Army for two years. He met his beloved wife, Carolyn, and they were married on June 22, 1957. Jerry was a proud father of three chldren, Karen (Kurt) Hull, Erik Anderson, and Kristin Anderson. He was also a proud grandfather to three; Michael Lopez, Kalina Hull, and Kristi Hull.

Jerry loved traveling to state and national parks to see the beauty of the world. He also traveled to Europe and to Peru to see Machu Pichu. Jerry had a love for music, particularly instrumental music. He enjoyed watch his children play their instruments in concerts, and also watching his granddaughters in their instrumental musical journeys. He assisted with bell set up for handbell choir at church for many years.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dorothy Anderson.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday April 13, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 824 North Lewis Avenue Waukegan, Illinois 60085 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Music Department or the Waukegan Band Foundation (waukeganband.com)
