Dawn E. Barens, 96, of Zion, IL, passed away on April 25, 2024.
She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 28,1927 to Paul and Alice Meissner. She had a happy childhood and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She did well in school and received a reward for being present and on time for one whole year. It was fun to hear her stories.
Later, Dawn moved to Lake County, IL and met and married Gerald Barens. They lived in Waukegan, IL, and both worked at Abbott for many years. After Gerald passed, Dawn lived in Zion.
Dawn accompanied Pastor Rose Simon on many trips together sight- seeing and experiencing new places. Dawn was blessed. Dawn was diligent to keep up on current affairs and knew what was going on in the world. She prayed for God’s will and help for all.
Dawn was very sincere about her Christian faith in God and loved Jesus for what He did on the cross to save souls. She was active in church, reading her Bible and praying. She attended the Zion Faith Homes. Dawn lived her life guided by her faith. She was a gentle soul.
Dawn was preceded in death by her mother, Alice; father, Paul; brother, Paul Meissner; nephew, David Meissner; and other relatives.
She is survived by her niece, Judy O’Neil and others.
The family wishes to thank the Zion Faith Homes, Dawn’s doctor and staff at Allure Nursing Home and Assisted Living and the staff of Suncrest Hospice for the loving care Dawn received.
