Obituary of Wallace Streich

Wallace A. Streich of Zion, IL, passed away on May 1, 2024 at home.

Wallace was born September 17,1936 at Belmont Hospital in Chicago, IL to Lester and Evelyn Streich. They moved to Zion in 1946.

Wallace graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa. He married Lois Nelson on August 27, 1955 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan, IL.

Wallace owned and operated Streich’s Flower Shop in Zion until 1980. After selling the flower shop, Wallace went to work for Moose International as an auditor and later became Deputy Supreme Secretary of the Loyal Order of Moose, retiring in 2000.

He became a member of the Zion-Benton Moose Lodge #667 in 1957 and was a past Governor of the Lodge. Wallace received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit from the Loyal Order of Moose in 1999. He was a member of Waukegan Lodge #78 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite VOC and Medinah Shrine Temple and served as a past President of the Lake County Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Jeffrey; granddaughter, Stephanie Post; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Evelyn Streich; son, James Streich; daughters-in-law, Carey Streich (Jeff's wife), and Sharon Streich (James' wife); and sister Shirley McCleary. 

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Rollenhagen, officiating.  Interment will be private for the family at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
