David Henry Mayhak, 67, of Lexington, South Carolina and formerly of Zion, died on Saturday, March 3, 2007 while on vacation in Palm Coast, Florida.
David was born October 30, 1939 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor's and Master's in health education from the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Lexington, South Carolina and while in Zion was a member of Grace Missionary Church. David was a teacher and a football coach for 35 years, having served 2 years at Kenneth Murphy Jr. High and 33 years at Zion-Benton Township High School. He served for 30 plus years as a huddle leader and board member of Chicagoland Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also enjoyed several years as a starter/volunteer at Shepherd's Crook Golf Course in Zion and at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Gaston, South Carolina. He was also an active church member, having served on numerous church boards. He taught Sunday school at Grace Missionary Church and also taught Sunday school and was a part of Spiritual Spotters at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Dave also served in the 85th Division Army Band with the United States Army Reserves. For over 30 years, Dave was co-owner of Daken Gallery Shop in Waukegan, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Beverly T. (nee Suttie) Mayhak; children Pamela True Mayhak and Scott Mitchell Mayhak; daughter-in-law Kari Lynn (nee Archibald) Mayhak; grandchildren Jonathan Scott Mayhak, Justin Mitchell Mayhak and Jami True Mayhak; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless deeply valued friendships.
He was preceded in death by his parents William H. and Phoebe M. Mayhak Hoppe.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 27th Street, Zion, Illinois 60099 with Pastor Doug Carlson officiating. Additionally, another memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 t 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 415 Barr Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29072 with Pastor Ralph Schneck officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Chicagoland Fellowship of Christian Athletes, P.O.Box 336, West Chicago, Illinois 60186, or, First Baptist Church, 415 Barr Road, Lexington, South Carolina 29072 for a prayer garden have been suggested.
