Hazel Burden Mason, 84, of Glendale, Arizona died April 13, 2007.
Hazel was born September 29, 1922. She spent most of her childhood in Saginaw, Michigan, then moved to Zion, and spent most of her adult life in New York City. She moved back to Zion in 1987 to care for her mother, then left in 1999 for Arizona. Hazel received a degree in nursing, was an undergraduate at Hunter College in New York, received her Masters in Music Therapy at a college in Mt. Claire New Jersey, and also attended classes at Juilliard where she studied piano and composition. Hazel was employed as an educator in the New York school system in the field of music.
Hazel is survived by one daughter Sharon (Capers P. Jr.) Harper; three grandchildren Capers P. (Nancy) Harper III, Christina Marie Harper, Takita Mason; her nephew and godchild, Charles W. Wells; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Scott Mason Jr.; one son Alvin Scott Mason III; her parents Charles Emerson and Dora Burden, and one sister Marion Wells.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Illinois Chapter, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie, IL 60076, or the Cancer Research Foundation, P.O.
