Silas F. "Si" Hendricks, 79, of Zion, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest.
Si was born February 15, 1928, in Zion, IL, and lived in Zion for all but 3 years of his life. He was a graduate of Lake Forest College. Si married Clarice Rendall on September 7, 1950, in Zion. He was a longtime member of Christ Community Church in Zion where he was active in the Passion Play and ushering. Si was owner of Si Hendricks Agency (a Real Estate Sales and Management Company that his father founded) in Zion for over 55 years. Previous to that he was a district manger for the Equitable Life Insurance Company, as a top producer for 15 years. He served the United States Army in Japan at the end of W. W. II , Zion Exchange Club Member, former Chairman of the Development Committee for the North Point Marina in Winthrop Harbor, Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club Member, Zion Concert Band Member, Zion American Legion member, and a member of the Zion Christian Business Men's Association, and attended the Waukegan Methodist church men's bible study group on Thursday mornings. Si was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid sailor for 40 years, sailing around Lake Michigan and the Virgin Islands.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clarice; son, Jeff (Deb) Hendricks of Zion ; daughter, Lorna (Linc) Yates of Zion; and son, Eric (Melinda) Hendricks of Zion; grandchildren, Christa, Alyssa, Lyni, Andrew, Ashley, Holland, Heather, and Jeremiah; sister, Geraldine Thomas of Zion; brother, Walter "Bud" (Bonnie) Hendricks of Gurnee, IL and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Silas and Ruth Hendricks; sister, Olive Ostrander; and brothers-in-law, Dick Ostrander and Paul Thomas.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 2:00 p.m.,at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, from11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Camp Zion Ministry of Christ Community Church or World Vision.
