Obituary of Neal Tanner

Neal P. Tanner, 68, of Beach Park, IL, formerly of Zion and Gurnee, IL and Las Vegas, NV, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Victory Lakes Continuing Care Center in Lindenhurst, IL. Neal was born May 16, 1939, in Zion and was a graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. He married Ruthanne Larsen on February 28, 1959 in Waukegan. Neal served as a drum major for the 85th Army Reserve Band and was a member of the Waukegan Musicians Union playing saxophone for the "Scotsmen," a band that played for many activities throughout Lake County. He retired from employment with North Shore Savings and Loan of Waukegan in 2000. Neal was an avid bowler and a former member of the Sunday Morning League at Sunset Bowl. He also was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Waukegan. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruthanne; children, Tim (Ruth) Tanner of Round Lake, IL, Mark (Linda) Tanner of Park City, IL and Patrick (Joni) Tanner of Antioch, IL; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oswald and Ethel Tanner. A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Newport Township Fire Protection District, 39010 Caroline St., Wadsworth, IL 60083.
