Obituary of Richard Woods

Dr. Richard L. "Doc" Woods, 74, of Wadsworth, Illinois, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion. He was born December 30, 1933 in West Frankfort, Illinois and has been a resident of this area since 1958. Following his graduation from St. Louis University Dental School, he spent 2 years with the United States Navy at Great Lakes as a Dentist, followed by practicing in Waukegan for 42 years, retiring 8 years ago in 2000. He was an active member of MeadowRidge Baptist Church where he served as Deacon of the Church. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman and he loved motorcycles and collecting antique/classic cars. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth; children Ralph Woods of Youngstown, Ohio, Russell (Patty) Woods of Currituck, North Carolina, Brian (Regina) Woods of Beach Park, Illinois and Dr. Kathleen (Roy Evans) Woods of Bristol, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren Michael Woods, Rachael Woods, Krystal Woods, Blake Woods, Kaitlyn Bennett, Dallas Evans, Dillon Evans, Monica Evans, Tracey Evans and Cody Evans; two great-grandchildren Victoria Evans and Joselyn Evans; two sisters-in-law Virginia Woods and Wilma Woods both of West Frankfort, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers Earl, Dean and Warren; and his parents Earl and Effie Woods. Visitation will be Monday, March 31, 2008, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at MeadowRidge Baptist Church, 4500 Rt. 173, Zion, Illinois 60099. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at MeadowRidge Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Whitworth officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Illinois. Memorial donations to MeadowRidge Baptist Church Building Fund, 4500 Rt. 173, Zion, Illinois 60099 have been suggested.
