Kenneth "Kenort" Roberts, 51, of Zion, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home.
Ken was born April 22, 1956 in Booneville, Mississippi and lived in Winthrop Harbor for most of his life. He attended the Winthrop Harbor Grade Schools and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1974. He worked at Bennett's United Oil in his early years, followed by 11 years at National
Gypsum and 11 years at Abbott Lab's as a Chemical Operator.
Ken was an avid pool player, playing in several leagues throughout the years. An outdoorsman since his youth, he loved both fishing and hunting and kept his boat and camper in Freemont, Wisconsin for many years. Above all, "Nort" was a friend to everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his daughter Kelly (Don) Golien; his son Andy Roberts of Waukegan; one granddaughter Kaila Golien; his mother Virginia Roberts of Zion; and one brother Ernie (Karen) Roberts of Zion.
He was preceded in death by his father Julius; and his friend Pam.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 2008, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14th, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 3009 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor, with Dr. Michael Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to First Baptist Church have been suggested.
