Rex Carey, 74, of Chicago, Illinois, died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Glencrest Nursing Home in Chicago.
Rex was born April 21, 1933 in Zion but lived most of his life in Chicago. He was employed for almost 30 years by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois. Rex was a master bridge player, played in many tournaments and amassed over 150 master points. Despite his life-long physical disability, Rex loved to travel and made many trips all over North and South America, Europe and Australia, often visiting the many pen pals he had. He visited all 48 of the continental United States.
Survivors include his brother, Philip (heather) Carey; six nephews, Jeffrey (Jenifer) Carey, Scott (Tiffany) Carey, Todd (Kelly) Carey, Douglas (Rebecca) Carey, Steven Carey and Jonathan (Meagan) Carey; two grand-nephews Austin and Brandon; and a grand-niece, Alexi.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Lucile and Eric Carey; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Beverly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Rev. Paul Gerardy of Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Congdon Funeral Home. Memorial donations to the March of Dimes have been suggested.
