Michael "Bud" Corsaw, 68, of Zion IL, died on Sunday, February 23, 2014, suddenly after being re-diagnosed with prostrate cancer in August of 2013.
Despite his re-diagnosis he continued to fight the cancer with strength and dignity. Mike was born on May 27, 1945, in Dayton, OH and was a 1963 graduate of Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH. He married Diane Billing on March 31, 1967 at Hope Lutheran Church in Dayton, OH. Mike and Diane moved to Beach Park, IL in 1969 and relocated to Zion, IL in 1976. They became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waukegan, IL. He was retired from the Zion Fire and Rescue Department after 27 years of service. He was a Certified Paramedic and an EMT Instructor. During his retirement he remained an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church becoming an Elder and recently elected to the Board of Trustees to the Cool Food Pantry. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was an avid sports fan, but especially loved the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Reds. He spent many years as President of the Beach Park Girls Softball Association, as well being a coach for his daughters on several teams.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Diane (nee Billing); children, Christine (William) Van Duys of Hoffman Estates, IL, Jennifer of Palatine, IL, Kimberly of Kenosha, WI, Emily of Pleasant Prairie, WI and Amy (David) Guzman of Zion, IL; grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda, Nathan and Max; sister, Karen (Walter) Schneble; niece, Stephanie Randles; great-nephew, Sean Randles; and cousin, Nancy Schnurr of Woodstock, IL. He also had many softball girls that he considered to be his adopted daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Marguerite (nee Ost) Corsaw; his granddaughter, Angela Van Duys; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Memorial donations are suggested in lieu of flowers to Christian Life School Mission, 10700 75th Street, Kenosha, WI 53142, the donations will support team members on mission trips to Romania and South Africa. The Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 620 W. Grove Ave., Waukegan, IL. There will be a viewing in the Narthex between 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
