Obituary of K. McGarrahan

K. Charles McGarrahan, Jr., of Zion, Winthrop Harbor, and Lindenhurst, died on Friday, March 21, 2008, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, after a courageous battle with heart disease and pneumonia. "Charlie" was born on November 1, 1931, in Zion and was a graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School in June of 1949. He completed the course of study at the National Institute of Drycleaning in Silver Spring, Maryland in preparation for a career owning and operating NuGlo Cleaners in Zion. He married Jacqueline Robson of Lake Forest on June 21, 1968 in Zion. He was a lifetime member of Christ Community Church (formerly Christian Catholic Church), where he served as an usher. He had been an active member of the JAYCEES of Zion. Especially after they had both retired, Charlie and "Jackie" entertained countless fans in many venues as clowns called "Lil' Bit" and "Not Enuf". He remained active in retirement in many entrepreneurial and volunteer activities. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Kenneth and Beatrice McGarrahan of Zion. Survivors include his wife of almost 40 years, Jackie; a sister, Kathlyn Gay, of New Port Richey, FL; a brother, James, of Cedar Rapids, IA; a brother, J. Richard of Alexandria, VA; and six nephews and nieces. Memorial services are planned for 1:00 p.m. on May 10th to be held at Christ Community Church in Zion. No viewing was held. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Camp Zion, a ministry of Christ Community Church.
