Obituary of George Dodd

George "JR" Dodd, 86, of Beach Park, IL died on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL. He was born February 24, 1928 in El Dorado, IL and came to Waukegan upon being Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy during World War II. For several years he drove race cars at Waukegan Speedway, Wilmot Speedway, and Lake Geneva Raceway, and he was founder and original board member of I.R.A. (Interstate Racing Association). Survivors include children Darrell Dodd of Beach Park, IL, Rose (Tim) Secketa of Waukegan, IL, Roy (Joyce) Dodd of Zion, IL, Wendell Dodd of Beach Park, IL, Kathy (Jeff) Hutson of Kenosha, WI, Carla (Ralph) Nickel of Kenosha, WI, Donald (Jenny) Dodd of Kenosha, WI, and Donna Urbanik of Gurnee, IL; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Wanda Lawrence of Zion, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle; granddaughter Christine Urbanik; sister Mary Hafford Kennedy; brother Bobby Dodd Sr.; and his parents George and Goldie Dodd. Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
