Paul Beetschen, 86, of Zion, died Friday, April 18, 2014, at Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park.
He was born Feb. 20, 1928, in North Chicago. Paul married Betty Durant on Jan. 15, 1949 in Zion. He was employed by the City of Zion Public Works Department from 1954-1984, where he could often be seen driving a street sweeper. He was fond of tending to his yard at home.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughter, Paulette (Daniel) Class; son, Paul Beetschen; grandchildren, Jennifer Moore, April Allbee, Cassandra Winningham, and Stephanie and Sarah Beetschen; brother, Philip Beetschen; sister, Wilma Burns; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Philip and Katherine Beetschen; brother, William Beetschen; sisters Betty Chapman, Patricia Stulginskas, Elizabeth Johnson, Helen Pounders, Shirley Booth, and Mary Langenfeld; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Aloma Durant.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to WAGS (Waukegan Animals Getting Saved), 128 N. West St., Waukegan, IL 60085.
