Obituary of George Eaton

George Eaton, 90, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died peacefully at his home, Tuesday morning, June 17th, 2014. He was born April 5, 1924, in Decatur, IL, to George and Elsie Eaton. George served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division and was in nine campaigns during his service. He was a pressman and stereotypist for the Waukegan News Sun, starting there in 1958 and retiring in 1988. George was one of the original group who started the "Help Them to Hope Fund" for Lake County. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. George married Thresia Sutter on November 7, 1946. The marriage lasted 63 years. They were residents of Winthrop Harbors since 1959. He is survived by two sons, Jim Eaton of Florida and Joe (Jana) Eaton of Arkansas; three daughters, Mary (Ed) Folsom of Zion, Carol Thompson of Winthrop Harbor, and Judy (Geoff) Blackwell of Connecticut; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Eaton of Antioch. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thresia; sons, David Eaton and John Eaton; an infant son; parents, George and Elsie Eaton; 4 sisters; 4 brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Julane "Bunny" Eaton. Visitation will be Monday, June 23, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00p .m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.
