Obituary of Reba G. Gates

Reba G. Gates, 92, went to be with the Lord on February 17, 2017. She was born October 2, 1924 in Marion County, AL to David E. Harris and Minnie Mae (Jeffreys) Harris. She moved to Zion, IL in 1950 and worked at Warwick Mfg. in Zion and also Zion-Benton Township High School in Zion, retiring in 1994. On July 2, 1966 she married Irving Gates in Zion. Reba loved her flowers and vegetable gardens which she shared with everyone who came by. Survivors include two brothers Ernest (Wilma) Harris of Vina, AL and Bill (Gayle) Harris; one sister Thelma Shelton of Zion, IL; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Robin, Rita, Mary, Paula, and Bonnie. She was preceded in death by her husband Irving Gates; her parents; one brother Bernice Harris; one sister Dean Kunz; and two brother-in-laws John Kunz and James G. Shelton. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2017, from 9:30 a.m. Until 11:00 a.m. At the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Zachary Snider of Zion Assembly Church Of God officiating. Interment will follow at South Bristol Cemetery, Bristol, WI. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude Research Hospital, Memphis, TN 38101 have been suggested.
