Obituary of Nancy Smith

Smith, Nancy J. 67, of Wadsworth, IL, passed away on Monday, January 14,2013, at home. Born July 12, 1945, in Freeport, IL, she married her late husband, Richard J. Smith on May 21, 1966, in Freeport. Nancy was above all a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Her first priority was to love and support those close to her, and she did so very well. She was an incredibly generous and compassionate person who was always willing to provide a listening ear. Nancy did not like to be the center of attention, but instead preferred to serve behind the scenes. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Church for over 45 years, participating at different times in various roles, including as a greeter, A W ANA club volunteer, and small group member. She assisted her husband, Richard, as he led an adult Sunday School class for many years. Nancy also was involved in Christian Women's Club, serving for a time as President of the local chapter, and fnr years she volunteered weekly in the office of Love, Inc. Most importantly, she loved Jesus Christ, and will be remembered as someone who honored Him with her integrity and her humble, servant's heart. Survivors include a son, Erik (Christi) Smith of Carmel, IN; daughter, Melissa (Joseph) Smith Smith of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Kaelyn, Malachi, Simon, Ferris, and Caide; and brother, James (Eleanor) Coomber of Moorhead, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and her parents, Elwood and Vianna Coomber. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Joe Boerman of Immanuel Church officiating. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Immanuel Church, Love Inc., or Advocate Hospice.
