Obituary of Glenn Stanley

Glenn O. Stanley, 75, of Zion, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 5, 2013 in Port Charlotte where he had lived for the past seven years. He was born April 4, 1938 in Waukegan, IL. Glenn was an active member of Lakeview Church of Zion where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir and First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda, FL where he served as a deacon and also sang in the choir. Singing was a major part of his life. He sang and traveled with a gospel group called the Spirit of Life Singers, he performed in many local musicals, and sang for numerous weddings and funerals throughout the years. He was employed as a union truck driver, worked for Whiteman & Fry Lumber Company of Zion for thirteen years, and served as a funeral assistant at Congdon Funeral Home. He also worked at the Zion Park District doing golf course groundwork and he drove bus for both the Park District and Zion-Benton Township High School. Survivors include his wife of 49 years Susan; children Jeffrey (Leslie) Stanley and Daniel (Chelsea) Stanley both of Kenosha, WI and five foster children; three grandchildren Jared and Alyssa Stanley and his grandson to be born in April; siblings Lester (Judy) Stanley, James Stanley, and Robert (Barbara) Stanley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister Shirley (Jerry) Reeves; and his parents Lester and Jenny Stanley. Visitation will be Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m., at Lakeview Church, 1821 Sheridan Road, Zion, with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m., Pastor Les Martin officiating. Memorial donations to the music ministries of either Lakeview Church of Zion, or First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda, have been suggested.
