Obituary of Edith Thomas

EDITH THOMAS, 52 Edith "Edie" Lanette Thomas entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, May 13, 2013, at Vista Health East. Edith was born on March 30, 1961, a daughter of the late Edward James and Mary Lee Howard. She graduated from Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Detroit, Michigan in 1979. She earned a B.S. degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa School of Social Work. At the time of her death she was employed as a Social Worker at the University of Illinois and Horizon Hospice. Edith was a very kind and gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. She was greatly interested in the lives of her nieces and nephews, and looked forwarded to seeing them grow and change. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Edie was there at a moment's notice to all, providing guidance and her undivided attention. She was compassionate about her career as a social worker and admired by anyone that interacted with her. Edith was preceded in death by her beloved parents and a sibling, Donald Alonzo Thomas. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her; loving sisters, Pansy Tapper (Winston) of Jacksonville, Florida, Sharron Shepard (Kenneth) of Beach Park, Illinois and Annie McPherson (Earl) of Iowa City, Iowa; loving brothers; Sidney Thomas (Rose) of Iowa City, Iowa, Glenn Thomas (Lynn) of Zion, Illinois, Edward Howard of Detroit, Michigan and Gavin Howard of Iowa City, Iowa; adorning nieces, Denelle Thomas, Jasmine Howard; and adorning great niece Jazlyn Howard; adorning nephews, Gerard Thomas, Jermaine Howard, Kerwin Thomas, Desmond McPherson, Moronkie Tapper, Kent Shepard and Kenyon Shepard. Services will be held Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 am at the Congdon Funeral Home located at 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois.
