Obituary of Joseph Martinelli

Joseph P. Martinelli, 79, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Vista Medical Center East, Waukegan, IL. Joseph was born January 24, 1934, in Chicago, IL, and was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. His employment history included Chicago State University, NOSCO, and eventual retirement from the County of Lake as a Purchasing Agent. Joseph served with the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962. He was an avid Bears fan. His mantras were, " Food, Family, Fun!" and "Go Bears!" Survivors include his children, Mike (Rosie) Martinelli, Bob (Diane) Martinelli, Theresa (Brad) Liedtke, and Kathy Pichelmann; grandchildren, Kati (Buddy) Hargett, Kyle (Rieanna) Martinelli, Michaela, Sophia, Emily, Travis, Melina, and Brice; 3 great-grandchildren, Elliana, Madelyn, and Mason, plus one on the way; sister, Mary Julitz; brother Bob (Elsie) Martinelli; his former wife, Judith Beckenbaugh; many nieces and nephews and other family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Teresa (nee, Pazzaglia) Martinelli; and brother-in-law, Frank Julitz. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
