Obituary of William Bond

William D. "Bill" Bond, 60, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Pavilion of Waukegan. Bill was born September 15, 1953 in Sacramento, CA, and graduated from Sacramento City College in 1975 with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1976, Bill signed up for 4 years in the U.S. Army and served in Korea for his first tour. He was sent back to Colorado Springs, CO, where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Willibrand, In 1978 he promptly proposed and they were married just 7 months later on July 1, 1978, in Las Vegas, NV. They then spent the next 18 years in a military career that encompassed travel to Hawaii, Texas, Germany, San Jose, CA, Japan, and back to Colorado Springs where Bill retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant. Outside of his military duties, Bill was Lead Basketball Coach of his son Stephen's MWR youth team. After retiring from the military, Bill worked at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in North Chicago, IL. He transitioned to Stuttgart, Germany, for two years , then returned to Great Lakes where he spent his last years working the best he could. Bill was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and he belonged to the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy"; daughter, Jessica; son, Stephen; 3 grandchildren, Mia Leigh, Amelia, and Cameron Joseph; sister, Ellen Pattio; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Legion.
