Obituary of John Williamson

John W. "King" Williamson, 78, of Zion, Illinois, died on Thursday, December 30, 2010 of a massive heart attack at Vista Medical Center East-ICU, Waukegan, Illinois. John was born March 11, 1932 in Itawamba County, Mississippi and came to Zion in 1955. He was a man of strong faith and associated himself with the Assembly of God denomination. John retired from Johns-Manville in Waukegan after 41 years where he also served as President Johns-Manville Labor Union for 15 years. He was also a proud member of Old Codgers Social Group which would meet regularly in local restaurants. He also enjoyed his outreach work to many people in local nursing homes. Survivors include his daughter, Leigh Ann (Rev. Eric) Lawrence of Kountze, Texas; three grandchildren, Mark (Andrea) Maher, Matthew Maher, and Michelle Maher; two step-grandchildren, Joshua Lawrence and Joel Lawrence; and siblings, Clinon R. Williamson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Wavelene Williamson of Aurora, Illinois, and Van "Louetta" Williamson of Slidell, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wyndell "Wendy" "Tillie" Newell; one brother, Donald Williamson; and his parents, Curtis Williamson and Sibyl Frost Williamson. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with a funeral service beginning at 4:30 p.m., Pastor Ken Fielding of Christian Assembly of God Church of Zion officiating. Interment is planned for Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Golden, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vista Medical Center East-ICU, Waukegan, Illinois 60085 is requested.
