Obituary of Michael G. Kennedy

Michael G. Kennedy, 77, died suddenly July 8, 2018, at home.  Michael was born October 8, 1940 to Maxine and Laden Kennedy in Smithville, MS.  They moved to Zion, IL in the 1950's.  He married Marilyn Ryan on May 23, 1962, and together they raised their only son, Mike.

Michael worked as a Butcher at Mintern’s Market and Jewel for a few years.  He was a Sales Agent for the Advertiser for approximately 22 years.  Michael worked for Reed-Randle for several years before retirement.  During retirement he worked at Thunderhawk Golf Club.  He did motor cross racing in his younger years.  He enjoyed his yard and was quite particular about it.  He was very proud of his home and family.  He was a fine collector of baseball caps; you never saw him without one on.  He also enjoyed a trip to Alaska with his son and a friend in 2012, it was a trip of a lifetime.

Michael is preceded in death by his mother and father; cousin, Jimmy P. Roberts, whom he had guardianship of and in-laws, Rachel and Leland Ryan.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn (nee Ryan); his only son, Mike (Diane) Kennedy of Winthrop Harbor, IL; granddaughters, Hayley Kennedy and Savannah Kennedy of Winthrop Harbor, IL; brother and sister-in-law, George and Carole Laya of Clifton Park, NY; nephews and niece, Randy (Ramona) Laya of CA, Phil (Lynn) Laya and son Neil of NY, Aime (Blair) Morrison and children Nick and Jake of CA; and life long friend, Bobby Jo (Patty) Stevens of MS.  

Visitation will be held Friday, July 13, 2018, at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be private for the family.
